That's ickle woobie Sammy in 1.02! Lo those many years ago!
Now, Sammy is all grown up and trying to KILL DEAN OMGWTF and Ruby is definitely up to something nefarious and is manipulating it so Lilith somehow dies as the 66th seal or something, right? Maybe?
And oh, if I had any expectation that Dean had a little of the litigator/corporate lawyer in him then I would be convinced that his "oath" as spoken to Castiel had at least nine thousand loopholes that I could see - I mean, to be as loyal to God as he was to John Winchester? That line only extends up to the point where protecting Sam from the whole wide world and universe takes priority - and when Dean made that oath, Protecting Sammy was still the most important thing. Can he save Sammy without breaking that oath?
Maybe?
But holy fuck, there is going to have to be serious reconcilliation before and around that - and whether it happens in the next episode or in 5.01, it will have to happen.
Yes, it will.
The colouring when Sam was in the panic room was gorgeous - he was ill and detoxing and the red light made Jared so beautiful, and the grey light outside made Jensen look almost ill, and so haunted. W00BIES!
I've seen some people wonder if Castiel may be the Big Bad next season, and I am kindasorta hoping - that would be a fascinating turn on the last season and a half with Bad Demons. Other than that, there was just so much lovely footage in this ep for vidding but I am definitely going to need a logo-free version because the CW junk kept rolling across the screen at the prettiest moments.
And am I the only one who wondered if they lit Sam's nose in part of the panic room scene just for
kroki_refur?
Hmmmm. Maybe?

I dunno. But something is not right in Angeltown.

That was my first thought too - that he disobeyed John Winchester and convinced Sam to do the same in Devil's Trap. Family First.

I think Castiel knows that Dean is loophole-aware.
I also think the season finale is going to kill me.
