Didn't he get the job in the first place because he was Bush's 2000 campaign manager's roommate or something? I know he fired/had to resign because of all the scandals and financial problems that cropped up when he ran some kind of horse-breeders organization.

But yay them for getting a new leader. Hopefully with someone who's got actual qualifications for the job.

The next logical step is to look at the rest of his appointments along similar lines, always bearing in mind this question: Crony or competent?

Subsequently we should subject the President himself to such an evaluation. I've always had the strong sense this guy has no skills or experience and was only hired because he was America's well-meaning, not-too-bright college bud.

In Texas, the most powerful political figure is, without argument, the Lt. Governor, not the Governor. The Lt. Governor essentially owns the Senate, determines which bills go to which committees, creates committees, and appoints people to committees. This, essentially, means he runs the state.

The Governor is to Texas roughly as the Queen is to England. His job is primarily to shake hands at public functions. Sometimes he is also expected to say "no" when criminals ask for a last-minute pardon.

What this means is that America installed a guy in the White House with no significant experience in any level of government: zero at local, zero at federal, de facto zero at state.

Michelle Malkin (cue: HAAAAAATE!) actually wrote a REALLY good column that was published in the Columbian (among other papers, I am sure since she is syndicated) that lambasted all the people I love to hate right now. Especially Signor Brown.

For once I found myself agreeing with her, because she actually had an opinion rather than the usual shite that comes bubbling the wrong direction out.
