The Herald-Sun in Australia reports that Emma Thompson has signed on as Professor Trelawney in PoA. The article also has a few little quips about the actors' current accomplishments and pasttimes:

"I love my cars," Tom Felton, who plays Draco, told the Sunday Herald Sun.

"I have a black BMW 316 Estate for my training car while I'm 16 and I'm looking at getting a 1.8 sports coupe for my first proper car."

Draped in a gold necklace and matching bracelets, with hip polo shirt and trainers, Felton looks more like a big-time street rapper than the Hogwarts bully.

No less sophisticated is Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter. At 14, one of his favourite movies is the raunchy R-rated Y Tu Mama Tambien Alfonso Cuaron made before he took over directing duties at Hogwarts from Chris Columbus.

He named Jane's Addiction, the Libertines, Rage Against the Machine and the Darkness among his favourite bands.

Rupert Grint, 15, who plays Ron Weasley, is a crack pool player -- he has a table in his dressing room -- who has taken up golf.

And Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) loves dancing: "While I'm here, I have lessons -- modern, street, body popping, break dancing and that. Back home I just hang out with my friends."

But, at 13, what appears to thrill Emma most is that she is no longer the shortest of the three main characters. "After all these years of being the shortest, Dan has come to face the fact that I'm taller than him," she said.

"By half a millimetre," Radcliffe pointed out.

There is a Rid fic in there somewhere, though probably not a very good one. I was glad to see Emma Thompson as Trelawney :D

Whether he knows it or not, Daniel is spontaenously molding himself into the sort of young man we all can't help but swoon over. He likes punk! He likes TEH MOVIE WIT TEH BOY SEX!!!

Tom, however, is sort of making me shake my head in sad disbelief. He is such a p1ebe.

I'm happy to hear that Radcliffe is the shortest of the bunch. For the sake of the movies, I hope he remains that way.

Sorry. Tine is unable to discuss this because she's rolling on the floor laughing. By the way, Tom's driving the same car as her currently. She thinks that's hillarious, as is everything else. She's also looking forward to PoA muchly, and is sure Emma Thompson will frelling ROCK as Trelawney!!

Tom- Giant plebe. He needs a makeover. I've decided that the b00 has peaked at 12 and it's all downhill. Recommend plastic surgery for The Nose.

Dan- Has given me fangirl hope. He watches boy/boy p0rn and likes punk.

Emma- come on honey, I mean, who break dances since like, 1987? (besides the people in the Jolly Rancher commericals and Cuba Gooding Jr.)

Am laughing that Emma W now taller than Dan.

Love Emma Thompson, although I pictured Trelawney as older and skinner.

Not even a starter car. He cannot drive this on any public roads until he is 17. I would guess that it is an old car and he is practising on private land and learning many bad habit in the process.

Emma Thompson

[identity profile] psychic-serpent.livejournal.com 2003-10-04 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but I was so hoping Emma Thompson would be Rita Skeeter! I have pictured her in this role every time I've read GoF, and then in OotP, as well. I have to completely readjust my mind for her to be Trelawney instead. Haven't they been filming for a while? Why is this just coming out now? Did they film the thing in reverse, with the end scenes first? (I know I've seen stills from the Shrieking Shack.) Ah, well. I reckon she'll do a good Trelawney. I think I was imagining a sort of older Jane Horrocks doing Trelawney, partly because of the film "Little Voice" and partly because of her doing the voice of Babs in "Chicken Run." ("Is she on holiday?")

Mer, and I've always seen Miranda Richardson as rita, probably because she was so wonderfully evil in the crying game, yet is also brilliantly funny (see: blackadder).

That exact article was in my newspaper today. But not in the Sun-Herald (I think that is the Sydney newspaper), in the Sunday Mail (Queensland).

[identity profile] missaustralia.livejournal.com 2003-10-04 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It was also in the Sunday Herald Sun - the Melbourne paper. Because I bought it and had to sit down outside the newsagents to read it before I continued on my way home.

Squee on Emma Thompson!

And here's the link (http://heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,7460354%255E2902,00.html), with pretty picture.

<3's Emma Thompson as Trelawney

[identity profile] annearchy.livejournal.com 2003-10-04 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems like some kind of karma to have Kenneth Branagh's ex-wife playing Trelawney, don't you think?? :-) As for the HP kids:

* Felton - a terrible rappin' p1ebe. Apparently bucking to be Eminem's body double/ understudy in the sequel to EIGHT MILE.
* Grint the pool shark. This I can see. He's a stitch.
* Watson the dancing queen -- should we send her an ABBA album?? On vinyl of course.
* Radcliffe the half-millimeter shorter young leading man who loves punk and proto-porn (YTMT) - makes me wish I were 15 (or 20, or 25) again so I'd be allowed to swoon.
* Me - going to the Bad Place very very soon. Got my electronic ticket today ;-)

Saw this link in Ivy's journal.

Have been reading this, particularly the discussion about Emma Thompson as Trelawny. Read it over and over again. Emma Thompson. Wondered why on earth Hermione and Trelawny would look alike. Read it again. And again. Read comment about Branagh's ex-wife. Smacked self. Realized surname was THOMPSON and not WATSON. Am very silly.

As for Tom's "training" car...that little bastard! I wish I could have had a Beemer to PRACTICE with. As it is I've got a car that's the same age as the freaking cast of the film. I hate him! But I love him so...it's all so confusing!!

It is my dream (and I'm sure the dream of many others) for Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton to eventually act out many smutty HP fics on camera. To be released on DVD. Oh yes. It will happen one day...

How very funny. I loved the part in the COS DVD Special Features when Emma Watson was trying to be taller than Daniel Radcliffe. Also, now I'll have to watch Y Tu Mama Tambien....
