But it's been almost five years, so I think it's time to do it again:

Comment with one of my fandoms (including any book (or series thereof), tv show, musical or film that I've reviewed or commented on favorably) and I'll reply with:

01. The first character I fell in love with
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't
04. The character I love that everyone else hates
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer
06. The character I would shag were I (and the character, if appropriate) not married
07. The character I'd want to be like
08. The character I'd slap
09. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

The one who seduced you, screwed you over, broke your heart in a million pieces, and laughed about it.
Heroes. I stuck with the damned thing until the very freaking end, and I am not unhappy that I did because my GOD the WALL-verse for Gabriel and Peter was exactly the arc they needed (well, no, the arc they needed would've been keeping them as brothers-and-possibly-twins but that lasted what, two episodes?) but there were episodes of the show that were so bad and it had such potential and the showrunners fucked it up. I will never regret anything I read or wrote or vidded, or my set visit of amazingness, but when I re-watch the Pilot or random S1 episodes, which I still do, it makes me headdesk.

The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp.
Leverage. I'm almost the entire season behind as it aired while I was traveling, but I still read fic and am pretty well spoiled for the season and I am fine with that, and looking forward to a wonderful catch up marathon on planes in September.

The mysterious dark one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 AM at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized s/he really was fucking crazy: Torchwood. I still haven't watched all of CoE, and while I'll happily read a crossover with something else I love, and I may very well watch all of Miracle Day at some point, I just don't trust the show not to hit one of my major squick points until it's been fully vetted to the end of the season.

The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor and whom you'd still really like to get with again, although you're relieved s/he doesn't actually live in town: I've just spent about three days reading massive amounts of movie!Thor fic (awww, Loki!) and I may not be done yet. Recs? And yes, I have a vidplot for when the dvd comes out, and may actually go see the Avengers movie just in hopes of Loki vs Tony interaction, flail.

The steady:
Supernatural. If it hasn't lost me yet, I don't think it's going to. To think, when I started watching back in January of 2007, nobody was sure it was going to make it through the summer! And Heroes was the big thing back then! Winchesters, I am with you til the end of the road, which I still hope will be an American Gods thing (as per [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing) but I doubt that more and more with each episode, and I'm okay with that.

The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with: While Collar. I read it often, especially things that xover with Chuck or Leverage, but I've never been tempted to write anything, and I haven't vidded to it yet. Back in June I was wondering if the end of S2 might lead to me doing a Neal-centric vid to Little Lion Man and I am pleased to say that at this point, I don't think it works as well as I thought it might back then. But, maybe someday.

The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with, but ultimately you're just good buddies: Current Doctor Who. I respect and appreciate Matt, Karen and Arthur, as well as Alex and Mark and the storylines but it's just not Tennant and Tate. I'm not ruling it out forever, but I'm not there right now.

The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool person except it's never really gone anywhere: Inception. I'm so happy you're all so happy, and the film was adorable but again, I'm not there.

The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at them and thinking, "How the hell did they land all these cool people?" Still the various Stargate shows. I think they were hitting it big while I was very busy with Harry Potter things, and having babies, so I've never seen a single episode despite the fact that I loved the movie back a million years ago. I would probably like it if I ever took the time for it, but I'm just not interested in spending the time. Um, sorry?

The one who gave you the best damned summer of your life and against whom you measure all other potential partners:
Harry Potter, always and forever, my introduction to fanfic, fanart, fanvids, fanfilms, filking and massive amounts of creativity and positive social change and good things. Also, a lot of crazy, but there's crazy lurking in so many random places on the Internet, we all just need to work around it. And ship Barty Jr/Regulus Black. No, btw, am not in Pottermore yet - still waiting on my email - but I am curious where I'll get sorted and what wand I'll get. I'm mostly unspoiled for the content, too. I really want to discover this on my own, with my son.

The one you recently met at a party and would like to get to know better: Oh, XMFC, you are everywhere on my flist, and I loved the film and I have preordered my blu-ray for the missing scenes and I cannot wait for a sequel set in the time of angst that was the late 60s and 70s.

The old flame that you wouldn't totally object to hooking up with again for a one night romp if only they'd clean up a bit: Ha, no clue. I was mono-fandom-ous from 1999 through 2006, so I don't have anything other than HP from that time period at all.

Your hot new flame: Hunger Games! I'm supposed to talk about fanfic/fanart for YA novels/films at Dragon*Con next week, so I'm, um, reading for research. I think I've read every Finnick-centric fic already though?

The one who stole your significant other: Bandom. :P Ah, fandommigration, you happen and then many migrate again a few months later, don't they?

In 2007, I first did this particular meme, then did it again in 2008 but I don't remember doing it in 2009 or 2010, and for some reason I am in the mood to do it again. To update from what I wrote back then:

Name a character in any of my fandoms* and I'll tell you 3-4 things about them from my personal fanon-take on said character.

*Back then, the list was: HP, New Doctor Who, Torchwood, Heroes, Supernatural, The Eight or Tomorrow People (heck, I'll even throw the Star Wars original series and Batman Begins in for a lark).

In 2008, the list was: HP, New Doctor Who, Torchwood, Heroes, Supernatural, The Eight or Tomorrow People, Star Wars original series, Batman Begins, PotC, Indiana Jones, Dark Angel, IronMan, Gilmore Girls (S1 - 4 only) or Chuck.

Now the list is: Harry Potter, New Doctor Who, Torchwood, Heroes (yeah, still. So?), Supernatural, The Eight, Tomorrow People, Star Wars, Batman Begins-verse, Castle, Glee, Chuck, Merlin, White Collar, Leverage and heck, I'll throw in Inception too. And Disney Princesses.

So that meme that asks you to find the song that was #1 the day you were born?

Mine was George Harrison's My Sweet Lord, which is, in legal circles, famous for being at the center of one of the fundamental cases on unintentional copying and is used as a teaching tool in copyright law classes.

Ah, so much makes perfect sense now.

Off to check with our domain host to see what is up with FictionAlley's DNS stuff....

Heading off to a funeral right now - the husband of the couple who are our closest friends locally lost his father after a two-month illness on Friday, so I'm heading to south miami for the funeral now. That's basically why I was mostly offline all weekend, to spend time with family and friends - and to make latkes, which came out terrifically yesterday.

And Aaron and his family are out of sorts because of a combination of living life without Grampa Herb and the fact that it would have been Aaron's Grandma Bea's birthday later this month. Their absences were so noticeable when we were shopping for gifts this year.

But cousins are coming to Orlando next week and we are going up to see them (our kids don't know yet!) and I think it'll be a good break for everyone.

I put my name into the Secret Santa Love Meme, and will spiral through it this afternoon to leave love for any of you who're in there. But I am about a day behind on LJ so if you have a thread, please feel free to zap me the url.

Will try to catch up on the Days later today as well...

But isn't that what we have LJ profile pages for? SO many thanks to everyone who sent me a snowflake cookie! It was such a lovely day-brightener and I agree that LJ should do this every so often, just randomly. Except if it crashed the notification system, because getting v-gifts is shiny, but so is getting comments.

Have you preordered your HBP DVD? If you are getting the Blu-Ray or the double-disc version tomorrow, check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter featurette - but if you don't want to wait, you can see the sneak preview of it on the Infinitus site tonight, with special thanks to Universal for sending it over.

Speaking of Infinitus, I am the coordinator for meet-ups that involve f00d, drinks and/or non-hotel Universal locations like the Parks and CityWalk. More about this coming to the official website later this month, but if you're interested in learning more about what your ship/group/site/comm/fans-of-a-specific-character-or-house/cohorts can organize/schedule let me know sometime between now and, um, March. First come, first serve on picking places and times, though!

I'll be in Orlando for a few days in two weeks - cousins are coming in from Maine and friends are coming in from NYC, so we're heading up to see people. We are definitely going to the Gaylord Palms ICE! exhibition, but is there anything else that's a must-do at any of the Disney parks and/or Universal? We've never seen the Osborne Lights or Cinderella's Castle all lit up for the holidays, so we may try to get to them, but other than that?

Erm. Missed a few days of the Meme of December

Day 06 -- Whatever tickles your fancy
My favorite holiday-season song is Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas", but two years ago, I heard the My Chemical Romance version and flipped for it. If anyone has any other versions of the song, I would love it if you'd share! Of course, I have the Love Actually version, but are there any others? Anyhow, two years ago, I ended up making two vids that year, both set to that version of the song.

1. What song do you play the most? Since I reset my numbers last June, Jason Mraz's I;m Yours is my most-played song, but in the last month the GLEE version of Halo/Walking on Sunshine is tops. Of all time, probably Don't Dream It's Over or Breakout.
2. What song do you play the least? Of all the songs I really like? It's probably something with curse words in it that I can't play in the car.
3. What's the last song you added? Hair/Crazy In Love from Glee
4. What's your favorite playlist? My workout one is pretty fantastic, but I also have one that's all Jason Manns, Kris Allen, the Scissor Sisters and Adam Lambert. It makes a lot of sense, and it's fantastic to listen to. If I add the songs from Glee to it, it will be perfection.
5. What kind of iPod (or MP3 player) do you have? I have a collection of ipods, because even when the screen is cracked I can find some use for it. I have an old-school shuffle for the gym, a nano for traveling, a cracked Classic for the car, my vintage 2003 ipod for the kitchen and my dad's old iphone for apps, and the kids.

[livejournal.com profile] fannish5: If you could resurrect/bring back five characters, who would they be? I assume I'm not technically allowed to say TEN at this point? Potential spoilers for Doctor Who, SPN and Heroes, so I'll cut it )

Day Four of the 30 Days meme asks for your favorite book. Definitely The Eight, although I recently reread Marjorie Morningstar by Herman Wouk, and remembered how much I loved it in high school and college. I think it influenced me more than I care to admit much of the time.

Day Five asks for your favorite quote. I don't really have one, but from the Ask Caroline column in the Washington Post years ago, I used to have "Some people fear death; I fear literalists..." as my sig file. So it's either that or Eloise talking about pouring a pitcher of water down the mail chute, or the eternal words of wisdom:

"When going to hide, know how to get there, and how to get back. And eat first."

That's from Into the Woods and I <3 James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim eversoerymuch.

Day 01 -- Your favorite song: For working out? Halo/Walking On Sunshine from GLEE. Of the last year? Whadaya Want from Me from Adam Lambert, written by Pink. By my favorite band? Can't Carry On by Crowded House. Of all time? Swing Out Sister's Breakout. And I'll share all of them when I get back home.

Day 02 -- Your favorite movie: Of the last year? Up. By my favorite actor? Serendipity (John Cusack, although I won't see 2012). Of all time? Either High Society or Star Wars. And my favorite Harry Potter film is still and always PoA.

Day 03 -- Your favorite television program: Of the last year? Glee. Of the decade? Supernatural or the Donna season of DW. Of all time? Probably Friends, simply because I met so many wonderful people because of it, and it has the best collection of lines of any sitcom. It was the show of my exact generation, in so many ways.

Coming later this month... )

I'm flying to LA in about five hours, but wanted to get a few things in under the wire:

1. The fourth cool thing I was hoping would happen for Azkatraz will happen! I just got an email about it - and all I can say right now is that it involves the Masters of Potter Administration programming slate, and it's another guest to add to the list that already includes Time Magazine book critic Lev Grossman, the creators of the 20Q Snitch game, the creators of Dreamwidth, an attorney from the EFF and more!

And remember - on the 16th of April, cost of a full registration goes up to $165 - and there is a chance that we'll sell out of full registrations and new Merlin's Circle registrations* before June, so we are about to introduce a registration that will include all programming, the common room, the gallery, Quidditch, all informal programming, and the ball, but not the Welcome or Leaving Feasts, since what we're running out of is room at the feasts (we're capped by space at about 850 people), and not space in the programming rooms.

* However, we will continue to allow for upgrades from regular registrations to the Merlin's Circle registrations until June 30.

2. My friend Lisa is auctioning off sketch cards of women of Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Comics (as well as a few other random characters!) to raise money for The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. You may know Lisa from her other fundraising endeavours -- Project Teddy Bear and Knock Out Breast Cancer. This year, Lisa's walking in two 39.3 mile Avon Walks and trying to raise $15,000 to fight breast cancer.

You can check out all 28 of the cards on her site: http://www.lisawalks.com/sketch.htm Go quickly! Auctions start ending tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon ET.

1. There's going to be a new auction for Firefly/Serenity fans on LisaWalks soon-ish!

2. I am up for sale in Sweet Charity! I have two vids on offer - one specifically crack, and one that's broader - anything in Heroes, Supernatural, Twin Peaks, Chuck, Merlin, Doctor Who (new), Torchwood, Leverage, LOTR or Watchmen (although a Watchmen request won't be done until a month after the DVD comes out). My most recent Sweet Charity vid was for [livejournal.com profile] la_perkins - it's a somewhat cracktastic gen SPN vid set to an adorably hilarious song from the Corb Lund Band - Always Keep an Edge on Your Knife - and all my Sweet Charity vids are here.

3. [livejournal.com profile] ignipes was doing Shag, Cliff or Marry, and I was curious who she'd give me, so I played.

The following presumes that I am not, nor have I ever been, married.

Ianto Jones, Peter Petrelli, James Potter

My first reaction is to cliff James Potter, because he's dead anyway, but shagging or marrying him would get me proximity to Remus and Sirius and there are worse fates than watching the two of them snog or be angsty about each other.

And I don't want to marry Ianto because he's a workaholic who's a little too devoted to his boss, and getting in the middle of that could be messy. Plus, I don't actually like the smell or taste of coffee.

I definitely don't want to marry Peter Petrelli because it would be far too weird for him to marry a girl who has the same name as his brother's (ex-)wife and have you seen the drama=angst in that family? Almost as potentially deadly as being married to James Potter.

Would like to shag him, though.

So I'd count on my sensibilities to convince James not to trust Pettigrew as the Secret Keeper, and marry James Potter, after shagging Peter Petrelli, and poor Ianto Jones would be cliffed, but I would hope for his sake that there's a TARDIS just below the drop-off to catch him because I don't actually want him to end up painfully dead.

If you want me to give you a set of three to Shag, Cliff or Marry, please comment!

[livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive: High School
1. Would you return to high school life for a week? Why or why not? For a week? Sure. Ideally, the week that I spent traveling around England during the last semester of high school - or the photo class trip to New York that I had the week before that.

Average, every day high school? Depends on the reason why.

2. Who were/are you in high school? Not around very much. I worked for two different tv stations from my sophmore year on, and had permission to leave campus at 2PM most days, so I didn't do many extra-curriculars, and I didn't do any sports. Any chance I had for a normal high school experience was eviscerated when I broke my leg two weeks before classes started for my junior year, making it impossible for me to get around campus easily, stay after for clubs, manage the swim team, or even get a ride to school with friends, as I was casted up to my hip.

3. What was/is your favorite high school hangout? What did/do you do there? Nothing in particular for my first three years, but senior year there was a little food court with excellent chineese and sushi that we went to a lot. My friend Chris and I ended up being extras when they filmed a Miami Vice episode there halfway into our senior year.

4. What were/are your favorite three songs in high school? Something So Strong (Crowded House), Cross My Heart (Everything But the Girl) and Breakout (Swing Out Sister).

5. What was the craziest thing you did in high school? I was the one who brought a bottle of champagne to the parties, and handed it around rather than drinking from it myself. I hated beer - still do.

[livejournal.com profile] fannish5: Name the 5 most memorable tv/movie soundtracks.
1. Reality Bites. I bought it for Crowded House's Locked Out, and I kept it for Lisa Loeb's STAY. Still one of my favorite soundtracks ever, and I still listen to it a lot.
2. Moulin Rouge. I love the Elephant Love Medley! I love how Baz managed to merge so many different things together - it was the perfect pastiche.
3. Mamma Mia - my kids love for me to play it, especially (for no explicable reason) Super Trouper and Honey Honey. There is no way to get it out of my head.
4. Hairspray! Loved the play, love the movie. Love the songs - and my eldest does a wonderful version of It Takes Two.
5. Beauty and the Beast. I had to get some Disney in here and while I probably love the actual songs in Lilo & Stitch and Enchanted as much to listen to, I have to include Beauty & the Beast because what could be better than songs about reading. "Isn't this amazing? It's my favorite part because - you'll see...."

I haven't seen any humor on my flist about the Republican budget Collection of Charts That Are Mostly A Series of Circles and Lines And No Numbers (which some Republicans in Congress who'd been working on an actual budget concept are somewhat nonplussed about) - but I have seen some on political blogs like DKos.
